The Rotary Club of Traverse Bay Sunrise was chartered May 25, 1999, under the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Traverse City. Our signature project is Backpacks for Kids. Since project inception in 2004, Backpacks for Kids has impacted over 14,000 deserving Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) K - 5 students, at-risk teens, as well as special needs students throughout the five-county area.

In recent years our world outreach project was the Bitone Center, a unique and innovative program for young children located in Kampala, Uganda. Our current focus is a hands-on service project, Hydrate Honduras. We've raised funds to purchase life-saving water filters and, in spring 2013, traveled to install 195 filters in the homes of rural mountain villagers. We are the international partner for a Global Grant which continues to help this region through the installation of 340 additional filters, the education of villagers and the post-installation inspection to ensure sustainability.
