Bulletin Buddy Note-Taking Form (also at front desk)

At any time don't be surprised if a new member offers to bump a designated Bulletin Buddy for 50/50 sales or note-taking opportunities. We know you will happily step aside to enable their progress against new member orientation program (red badge).

If you wish to be added to the rotation please contact Nancy Thornton.

If a date you've been assigned is not convenient, we appreciate your initiative to exchange with a fellow Rotarian.

Join us at Winter Social

Our annual winter social is always a fun evening out with our fabulous Sunrise Rotary friends!

We are repeating last year's approach of holding our Winter Social downtown as part of restaurant week--Saturday, February 27th.

The Franklin has once again offered us the privacy of their upper level dining room (the indoors one - don't panic).

Cocktails at 6pm

Dinner at 7pm

Please sign up online (see link in our Events calendar) so we can give them an accurate headcount.

On a related note--at our meeting last week you heard Becky Ewing RAVE about the FABULOUS Lebanese dinner which she bid on at last year's winter social. The dinner she referenced was donated by Vic and Georgia Geha as part of the on-site silent auction. For those that are new to the club, members donate items which often include donations of fun experiences, like VIc's dinner. Proceeds of the silent auction are directed to Rotary Foundation Annual Fund to help us achieve the required $100 per capita annual giving level to make us eligible for matching grants. If you have something you'd like to donate, please contact Nancy.

Elections:

Elections were held at our January 13th meeting. Thank you, and congratulations to Jay Buckmaster (President 2017-2018), Adam Beers (Treasurer 2017-2019), Joey Trojanowski (Director 2017-2019) and Dave Kase (Director 2017-2019).

Program:

Jim Stoops did his classification talk using power point photos for great effect. Jim grew up in the Garden State as an active youngster, heavily involved in music, sports, and of course academics. After successful high school years where Jim excelled at baseball and basketball, he wanted to go to college in the south so he could pursue his dream of playing baseball.
Jim attracted interest from the U of South Carolina and became a Gamecock. While there he not only earned a degree in business but also developed into a good pitcher – which earned him a contract with the San Francisco Giants. He worked his way up thru the minor leagues and in 1999 was called up to the majors with the Colorado Rockies. Jim pitched in the majors for several years until arm injuries (and surgeries) derailed him. He got into financial advising in Phoenix and married Karen (Susan Carlyon’s daughter) in 2004. They moved to Chicago with their two boys and after several years, decided Traverse City was where they wanted to be. The family moved to TC in summer of 2014 and Jim joined Susan and Steve in their financial management firm.

At our January 13th meeting new members Kip Nickel and Kimberly Purdy delivered their 'classification talks' as part of our new member orientation process.
