Guest Speakers:
Kip introduced Sue and John Waechter – Agape Community Transformation (ACT)
ACT began when Sue responded to a letter from a Uganda Family which had asked for help in making a strategic plan for its village. She was the only one to respond from fifty letters sent. She agreed to help with the plan - First project was to acquire a vehicle to serve as an ambulance for the village. Until then, villagers carried a stretcher forty miles to the nearest hospital. 30% of those in need died in route – often, expecting mothers.
ACT’s programs have grown incredibly and have branched into agriculture, music, health promotion, orphan sponsorships, solar energy to power projects and handcrafts. All the programs are designed to be self-sustaining and to sustain the local people. Fifteen churches are involved and Rotary has supported ACT.
ACT Mission: Agape Community Transformation (ACT) is an ecumenical organization of Christians in Muko Sub County, Uganda and the USA witnessing to the good news of the Gospel by seeking to affect the spiritual, physical, economic and societal conditions in our communities. We are a partnership with multiple backgrounds and experiences. ACT exemplifies how Christians in ecumenical fellowship together can grow spiritually and work within God’s plan to restore the Kingdom of God as Christ intended.
