Splurge on a Chicago Weekend and help raise funds for Malawi Service Project

If you're not going to our Winter Social tonight (Saturday) and you're interested in this, you had better call someone pretty quickly and give them your proxy! Starting bid is set at $600.

Paul Brink, the individual who brought us our selected Global Service Project - building a school in Malawi -- has generously donated the use of his downtown Chicago condominium as a silent auction item for upcoming Winter Social.

50 East Bellevue Condominium Association is located in the heart of Chicago’s fabulous Gold Coast. Just east of the building is Lake Shore Drive and Oak Street Beach. Oak Street itself has many and varied shops for your convenience, and it also serves as the beginning of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile where you will find The Hancock Building, Bloomingdales, Water Tower Place, Neiman Marcus and many other shops, just to name a few. Just west of the building is the ever popular Rush Street with its wonderful restaurants, bars and Mariano Park, which is located within a triangle that connects State Street and Rush Street at its north end.

The condo has two bedrooms and two baths so is ideal for two couples. It actually sleeps six when considering the fold-out couch. The winning bidder will need to check on dates but, aside from Holiday weekends, Paul believes they'll be able to accommodate most requests.

Support our Outbound Exchange Students

Each year we help generate funds that are split amongst our outbound Youth Exchange students to help them offset the significant expense of this life transforming experience. For the past few years we've enjoyed the hospitality and outstanding dining at Boathouse Restaurant.

The students help set up, serve/bus and even provide the entertainment!

It is always a fabulous evening. Please consider joining us. Tickets are available through our outbound exchange students.

Date: April 12
Location: Boathouse Restaurant
Cost: $50 per person

Rotary Show Ad Sales Raise Funds for Community Service

Several years ago the Rotary Club of Traverse City extended an irresistible offer to the other two Traverse City-based Clubs . . . help generate revenue by selling ads, and receive a share of the net proceeds based on the % of revenue our ad sales contribute to the bottom line.

The show has always been advertised as benefiting community good works, so any proceeds generated are deposited in our club Foundation earmarked for community service projects.

We simply can't lose!

If you're not in a position to sell an ad to business colleagues, and if you're not in a position to purchase an ad on behalf of your business, consider taking an ad to recognize someone or a worthy organization. Thank someone for simply being AWESOME . . . or thank a business you know because they have a service-minded heart.

Click here to download the 2016 Rotary Show Advertisement Order Form

For more information about how to buy an ad, please contact Kathy Bussell at 231-941-5421 or tcrotary2822@gmail.com.

Dana Venhuizen Classification Talk

Dana is a Traverse City native - born and raised here, having attended Trinity Lutheran and TC Central High Schools. Having lived on a farm, it was only natural that she became an active 4-H member. Her family had enjoyed summers in the Upper Peninsula so when it came time to attend college, Dana beat a path out of Traverse City as quickly as she could and landed at Northern Michigan University where she studied Speech & Communication. Although she had visions of getting out of dodge, she landed back in Traverse City and, in 2001, began her career in Youth Services with Michigan Works! Thirty-eight years ago her area was known as "Youth Employment & Training Programs." Today she is actively engaged with the Beaver Island Lighthouse School where she has witness the graduation of 662 students. Dana lives in Lake City with her husband and their energetic son, and she also has a teenage stepdaughter. Dana coached t-ball from 2007 - 2011, continues to be active with 4-H, foster care programs, and joins her family with their avid support of the Wheatlan Music Organization.

Nathan Hoard Classification Talk

Nathan is also a Traverse City native and a 2002 graduate of Traverse City Central. During high school he was captain of the wrestling team and also played baseball. Nathan attended Spring Arbor University and studied philosophy/religion while pursuing what he felt was a calling to the ministry. Before graduating he shifted gears to business.

Nathan's parents are both in Traverse CIty. His father is a pastor and his mother is an online professor. He has two brothers; one is in town and the other is in New York City pursuing his dreams of a career in music. While attending Spring Arbor Nathan met Becky who is now his wife of nearly 10 years. They have two children and a third is expected in May. To keep things lively, they recently adopted a 95 lb bloodhound/Coonhound.

Nathan began his career at Denoyer, starting from the ground up helping with moving things in warehouses, then obtaining his CDL and eventually helping to project manage large scale moves e.g. Manistee Little River Casino. He followed that with a move to Wimsatt Building Materials and is now at Padnos, where for the past four years he has managed the facility. Padnos was founded in 1905 and is a fourth-generation family business that employs 600 people in over 20 locations. (Ask Nathan about crushing cars!). Locally Padnos has been active in community service projects such as the "CanStruction" Father Fred fundraiser, and the "Clean Up Green Up" event each spring and fall.

Nathan's family are active members of the Church of Living God. When he isn't busy with his young family he enjoys hunting, and also fishing with his grandfather.
